However, this is likely to be their toughest test so far, and the last meeting between the Iberian rivals saw Portugal win on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the final of the 2024/25 UEFA Nations League in Germany.

The USA have made the most of home advantage and have made serene progress through to this stage, including a 2-0 win against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the last round. They will fancy their chances against a Belgian side who have looked a shadow of their former selves, but who pulled off a remarkable win against Senegal in the last 32, having been 2-0 down heading into the final minutes.

Argentina were involved a remarkable last-16 match, edging past minnows Cape Verde 3-2 after extra-time, with the tournament debutantes making sure they would be remembered as one of the highlights of these finals. Egypt needed a penalty shootout to beat Australia in the last round, breaking new ground by winning a World Cup finals knockout match for the first time.

Coverage of the eighth round-of-16 match, which takes place at BC Place Vancouver in Canada. Switzerland had a game to forget at the corresponding stage of the 2022 World Cup when they were thrashed 6-1 by Portugal. However, they will be hopeful of a much stronger showing this time around, having topped a group containing Canada, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Qatar, before easing past Algeria 2-0 in the round of 32. Colombia have only scored five goals in their four matches, but that was enough for them to top their group and also beat Ghana 1-0 in the last round

Coverage of the first quarter-final, which takes place at Boston Stadium in the USA, and is a repeat of the 2022 semi-final. Morocco made it through thanks to a 3-0 victory against co-hosts Canada on Saturday, upping their game in the second half after a goalless first period, and proving that their progression at the World Cup in Qatar was no fluke. They do, however, have to find a way past the tournament favourites, who were relieved to edge past Paraguay in the last round, in a match in which the South Americans tested every ounce of patience that Les Bleus possessed, with just a Kylian Mbappe separating the sides.

Coverage of both teams' second round-robin match, held at McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle, Australia. Japan coach Eddie Jones returns to the dugout after serving a four-match suspension, but his team will have to be at their best to defeat Ireland, who won 41-10 when the teams met in Dublin last November.
