The two clubs last met in European competition during the 2023 Europa League, where Sporting edged through on penalties after a 3-3 aggregate draw, and another closely fought encounter is expected in north London as both sides aim to take control of the tie.

All past winners of the Masters Tournament are among those extended an invitation, and this year will see veterans such as Fred Couples, Vijay Singh, and Mike Weir expected to join more recent winners such as Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, and the man to put on the green jacket last year, Rory McIlroy.
